Prayer is good. But get help too.
Omawumi Megbele: I sought help because I needed to. Let me explain it like this... It’s like being an alcoholic. You know there are alcoholics, [and] there are just social drinkers.
The difference between an alcoholic and a functioning alcoholic is that when the alcoholism don dey affect your work, it affects the people wey you love, it is now a disease. Then you have to seek help. That’s why when anybody is feeling some type of way… and yes I know that most of all these people like therapists, life coaches, and all. Those people have concessions for people that cannot afford full money for that sort of thing.
If you come out clean and say, “Ah, I no get money to pay you but see the way I dey think.” Even if you don’t want to meet them you could just have a mentor or somebody you can talk to but don’t go and meet people that are too into their opinion that will not be able to help you.
Jesus helps everybody. Jesus is everybody’s father but if you cannot carry me or lead me through it — specifically where Jesus said, “Oya my daughter hold my hand let’s be going”, don’t tell me that I should go and pray. Prayer is good but you need to get help.
So that’s what happened to me. I realized that there was a point I was getting to that my attitude started affecting the people that I love, would have started affecting my work, and I realized I needed to seek help.
Sometimes, the help is just letting it all out and then you find yourself free. Sometimes, you already know how to do the thing but you just need somebody to help you channel it the right way. Say, rather than do it like this, how about you do it like this because you’ll still get the same result.”
