Fellow traveler,
Here is this week’s edition of The Joy List. Hope you find it worthwhile.

> The Purpose of Life is Not Happiness
Did you do useful things in your lifetime? You don’t have to change the world or anything. Just make it a little bit better than you were born.
> Charlie Munger on Getting Rich, Wisdom, Focus, Fake Knowledge and More
Getting rich is a function of being happy with what you have, spending less than you make, and time.
The struggle against anger often requires lonely self-examination. Whether the anger in question is personal, or work-related, or political, it requires exacting effort against one’s own habits and prevalent cultural forces. Many great leaders have understood this struggle, but none more deeply than Nelson Mandela. He often said that he knew anger well, and that he had to struggle against the demand for payback in his own personality.
> How to Unlock your Inner Resilience
Finding meaning and caring is arguably the most important factor in developing a “sense of coherence”. This is because if we no longer care what is happening to us – if we cannot gain anything worth learning from an experience – then our resilience falters and we may become mentally unwell.
> How Are You Protecting Your High Performers from Burnout?
It’s easy to blame burnout on the high performers themselves. After all, the stereotype is that these overachievers say yes to more workeven when they’re already at capacity. They routinely put work first, canceling personal engagements to finish the job. While such habits may be partially to blame, this isn’t the full story.
