What I Learnt From My Interview with Hilda Dokubo
It’s beginning to come to me slowly — some of the most powerful women I know had very present fathers who validated them. One of my mentors would put on her Twitter bio then, “Forever validated by my dad”.
I see that many strong, responsible, powerful, well-adjusted men had powerful relationships with their mothers, and many powerful women had powerful relationships with their fathers.
Of course, there are people who didn’t have those relationships who have turned our to be great. But what comes to me is that parents need to take their responsibility very seriously — to validate, to affirm, to teach, to coach, to hold, to mentor, to love. It is not a small job.
People’s lives literally depend on that.
